There are lots of things happening around the Cedar Valley library in the next couple of months!!!

Many of our Third Graders are participating in the…

Sno-Isle Libraries Mega-Fun, Biblio-Trivia, Rock‘em Sock’em, Third Grade Reading Challenge.

Students have worked in teams, reading 6 chapter books to prepare for a quiz game.

The Cedar Valley competition will be held on February 25th in the Cedar Valley Cafeteria at 9:30 am and parents are welcome to attend.

A semi-final will be held for the winning CV team and other local teams on March 16 at Lynnwood Library, 6:30 PM.  A Final will be held later for the winners of that round.

Come out and support the CV teams!

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming!!

March 9th- 13th in the Cedar Valley Library

8:00-8:30 AM Tuesday – Friday

3:10-3:40 Monday and Tuesday

11:30-3:30 PM Wednesday - Thursday (these are half days)

We will also be open until 5:30 PM on Thursday, March 12th.

Come and get some great books for Spring reading!

The Best Book Club Reading competition is in full-swing with 4-6 grade students reading a selection of 18 novels in preparation for their own competition in May.  Stay tuned for specific dates when you can come and support those reading teams.

K-2 kids are hearing some great Washington Children Choice Picture Book Award books and will be voting on their favorite in April.

We are all celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a classroom door decorating contest.

Walk through Cedar Valley to see some great doors!

There will also be festivities in downtown Edmonds on Saturday February 28th from 10-4 for the whole community.  The Edmonds Education Association is sponsoring “Bowling for Books” on Feb 23-26 and March 2-5 at the Lynnwood Bowl and Skate.  Proceeds will go toward purchasing books for the school libraries.  Watch for flyers and newsletter information to come home about both events.

Welcome back to a new year in the Cedar Valley Library!

I hope you had a great summer filled with wonderful books and reading!

We are excited about all of the new books we have added to our shelves this year, thanks to your support of our library budget and your book donations!  In addition to our new WCCPBA and Best Book Club Books for 4th-6th graders, we have 100+ brand-new, and over 150 newly- donated books.  We are putting a lot of new reading material in many genres on our shelves for our kids!  Thank you so much for your support!

We are also excited about what we will be learning this year during library time. (It’s not all just check-out!!!)  Younger grades will be sharing the new Washington Children’s Choice Picture Book Award winners as we learn about book care, parts of a book, story elements, and the differences between fiction and non-fiction reading.  Upper grades will add research and report writing skills.  We will be tying in the Common Core Standards for reading, listening, and presentation to blend with classroom learning.  Our school will be using new Chromebooks in 4th through 6th grade and distributing our other laptops to more classrooms for their use. So, all students will also focus on Digital Citizenship and becoming responsible users of technology.

Our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year is coming up very soon – September 15th-19th!!!  We will be open before and after school and during the Cedar Valley Open House night on September 17th.  Please plan to join us or check out the link to the Online Fair, on the Cedar Valley Library webpage.   (Please be aware that if students ride the bus, they will not be allowed to visit on their own after school or they will miss the bus.  You are welcome to join them, or they must have a note saying that you will pick them up by 3:30, if you give them permission them to stay.)

We are looking for volunteers to help run the Fair also, so please let me know if you can help on any of the Fair days.  Besides finding great books, this is the main way that we raise money for the library budget so we can add more books and materials to the library.  Thanks for your support!

Be sure to visit the library webpage throughout the year for more updates on events and links to great learning sites!  Let me know if you need any help finding a link or some great reading material for your child.  Volunteers are always welcome!

Check us out in the library!
